The storage area for rotational molding molds should avoid damp and dusty environments and must never be placed outdoors. Instead, choose a dry, well-ventilated, and dust-free location, free from corrosive substances and gases. Humidity should be kept below 70% to prevent rust and dust accumulation. If possible, a dedicated mold storage area is ideal. Maintain proper labeling and records, including information such as the mold designer, manufacturer, usage time, weight, total production quantity, maintenance records, storage duration, etc.
Rotational molding molds are typically large and hollow. Although their unit weight may not be as heavy as other plastic molds, their overall weight is still considerable due to their size. Generally, large and heavy molds should be stored in spacious, easily accessible areas. They should be placed on sleepers or wooden racks and arranged neatly.
Avoid placing additional heavy objects on stored molds. If storage space is limited, shelving can be installed to utilize vertical space. Large and heavy molds can be placed on the ground, while relatively smaller molds can be stored on shelves. Ensure that all molds are placed on flat wooden boards or racks.
Before storing molds, wipe them clean. Areas such as the parting surface flanges and vent holes can be wrapped in plastic bags or oiled paper or sealed with clay to prevent moisture, dust, and debris from entering the mold. Iron molds can be coated with anti-rust oil to prevent rust during long-term storage.
When placing molds, those with mold frames should be positioned flat on their largest flat surface. For molds without frames, place them in the direction that minimizes stress, and use wooden blocks to provide support on all sides.
Avoid disassembling molds for storage, as this can lead to deformation and damage to the inner cavity surface. Additionally, exposure to moisture, dust, and debris can cause rust and contamination.
Rotational molding molds should be inspected regularly. Molds that have been stored for too long or have no practical value for future use should be disposed of or scrapped in a timely manner.
